National Technical Honor Society makes return

The National Technical Honor Society welcomes their recently elected officers, consisting of President junior Cayle Kelly, Vice President junior Sarai Martinez, Treasurer senior Isabel Iracheta, Historian senior Ruby Sanchez, and Secretary junior Alexa Aguisanda.

NTHS is geared toward recognizing career and technical education students. The previous advisors for the chapter left Caney Creek, leaving the organization inactive.

As a result, the advisor, industrial tech teacher James Buchanan, felt compelled to “get it up and running again. Buchanan sought to do his “part in giving the members opportunities” that they wouldn’t have unless the organization was still inactive.

This year’s advisors include Buchanan, agricultural science teacher Jessica Smith and family consumer science teacher Kimberly Gorman.

On Oct. 17, 2022, NTHS had their very first meeting, where selected students from CTE programs offered at Caney Creek like Floral Design, Welding, Culinary, Vet. Med., Health Science, etc. were invited to attend and join the organization. After membership and officer applications were due, selected groups of members, that were chosen by their CTE teachers, began discussing and planning their first two events at a meeting on Nov. 14, 2022.

NTHS’s first two events were held on Nov. 15, 17, 18, 2022 at Moorhead Junior High and Hope Elementary. Where the selected groups of members presented their CTE class, that they were nominated for, to the kids at the schools.
