How would other people describe you?

People would describe me as a fun and positive person.

Was there a career you wanted to pursue OR pursued before teaching.

I was into Pharmacy, I was going to be a pharmacy technician and then I got into pharmacy school when I realized it was not the life for me.

Tell us about how you got into teaching.

I knew I didn’t want to be behind a counter desk popping pills and bottles. I’ve always been very sport oriented , so I guess the coaching aspect brought me towards the teaching side.

What do you do outside of school for fun? Why?

Outside of school, I like to watch sports since again I think I’m a very sports oriented person.

When people get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn about you?

They’re most surprised to learn that I’m not around here. I’m from Oklahoma.

Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.

I’m not sure if there’s a story I’m most proud of myself for, but I hope one day there will be.

What advice would you give to someone pursuing a career similar to yours?

Take your time, there’s no rush to grow up and be a kid as long as you can.

What do you hope to be remembered for?

I hope to be remembered for my generosity, helping the kids and kindness coming from my heart that I give to others.

What’s on your bucket list?

I would want to rent a whole entire island for my birthday that you can rent and bring around 20 friends with.

How would other people describe you?

Mean and strict, and that comes with the job title. I didn’t make all the rules. None of the assistant principals did, but we are hired to enforce them. Our main goal is to keep you guys safe, and people way above us made those rules, policies, and procedures that we are hired to help enforce to keep you guys safe. So I know I come across as the meaner one out of all of us, but I think too, that when kiddos finally work with me some, you know, for different situations that are not because they’re in trouble, they realize that I’m really not that bad.

Was there a career you wanted to pursue OR pursued before teaching.

I wanted to be a meteorologist and a storm chaser. When I was younger, I grew up in Oklahoma. We lived on cotton land, and so you could see them coming from any direction, and I was our chasing tornadoes. I just wasn’t able to pursue that because my math skills were not good enough.

Tell us about how you got into teaching.

I always knew, I think I knew in the second grade I would be a second grade teacher, and my first teaching job was a second grade, and I did love it, but I knew I wasn’t for the littles. My mom was also in education, so it’s always been a part of us.

What do you do outside of school for fun? Why?

My husband and I like to do anything on the water. We love being on our boats, we love to sit by the beach, we love to go fishing. We also love to watch football. I love to read inside of my hammock.

When people get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn about you?

I’m very caring, and I really do want to help people, and really, I’m a lot of fun.

Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.

I’ve put 22 years into education and I have loved it. It stresses me out. We do a lot of the heavy stuff in the position that I am in, but I’ve worked in two different school districts. I’ve put 22 years in. I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’ve seen a lot of things; I’ve touched 1000s of children’s lives and their families, I’ve been able to help a lot of people. I’m proud of myself for those things. I’m proud of raising my children through that. I had my own two kids, and then I have two step children that I helped raise as well. I’m proud of myself for them turning out ok. My sin is the only one of the four that went into education, he’s coaching and teaching. I’m also proud of the family I come from. We’re a family of educators and it’s served me well.

Who is someone you are thankful for and why?

I’m thankful for my husband. He has let me be me. We don’t argue, we don’t fight. He knows I’m a little crazy. He never really tells me no, which is funny, because I wouldn’t have listened anyways.

What advice would you give to someone pursuing a career similar to yours?

Really think about it, because it is not a money maker, you will never be rich in this position, something I’ve told my son. You have to really really think about going into this profession, because there is a lot of heartache, there is a lot of frustration, there is a lot of legality to it, lots of stress; but if you can handle all those things, and wait it out. There is also lots to gain, lots of good things to happen. It can be very joyful at times, and you get to see the kids that succeed, and you get to share that with them.

What do you hope to be remembered for?

I giggle at the fact that I remember now already, from the kids that have known me all my life, all my educational life. I’ve been called the Pit Bull. So I giggle about that. I like to be known for the teacher that was tough, but for a reason, because I wanted them to do well for themselves, and they have had kids that have come back and said, thank you. That’s what I want to be remembered for.

What’s on your bucket list?

I’m going to move to Costa Rica, and live there for just a year, because it’s beautiful there, It’s laid back and chill.
