“It’s really hot with the blistering sun right in front of your face!!” junior Color Guard Captain Kaitlen Kennedy said.

The Texas heat didn’t keep anyone from practicing this summer. With record temperatures of over 100 degrees many students still had to rehearse from 8 to 4 every single day of the week. Organizations like football, colorguard and band have practiced since July.

Even though many say the sun can be irritating this doesn’t stop Kennedy from learning new techniques that she can carry with her for years to come.

“Summer camp has helped me learn leadership skills” Kennedy said.

The football team has also been preparing to show this season’s football crowd their school spirit. With record temperatures throughout the summer each team member is finding out how the heat affects them individually.

“The heat just makes you tired” senior varsity football player Jay Lundquist said.

The Panthers have stood up to the pain of the heat to gain the skills necessary to be successful this football season. This “no pain, no gain” attitude has made the football team have to depend on each other.

“This has taught me the value of teamwork, that you just have to rely on the people around you,” Lunquist said.

After practicing under the Texas heat for most of the summer the Panthers are still standing strong with positive attitudes and looking forward to the start of the season.

“I’m looking forward to winning Friday nights,” Lundquist said.
