How would other people describe your high-school self?
Active and fun to be around.
Was there a career you wanted to pursue OR pursued before teaching, Tell us about how you got into teaching.
So I saw the impact that my parents and my grandparents had, the impact on people’s lives that they had, and just when people would come back and talk about, no, I remember when your dad did this for me or your grandpa did it, you know? And hearing those stories of how it changed people’s lives, you know, I was like, I wanted, I wanted that in my life, you know, I wanted to live an impact driven life, And so I thought teaching and coaching would be the best way to leave an impact here so that’s what I decided to do.
What do you do outside of school for fun? Why?
I enjoy fishing, hunting, golf, and going to sporting events, I have four kids that are also involved in sports, so I spend a lot of time with volleyball, gymnastics, and their softball track meets. So a lot of stuff revolves around the kids, but you know, they also like to fish and be outdoors and do stuff like that too so it worked out pretty well.
When people get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn about you?
I’ve been told by a lot of people that I don’t look very approachable, but then when people get to know me, they find out I’m a pretty, pretty nice guy, at least, I think so but yeah, a lot of people, I think sometimes, before they get to know me, they think I’m serious all the time and and when there’s a time to be serious, but you know, I think that they learned that I am more open and caring than what people would think.
What is your hidden talent?
I did art all the way through college, and so I don’t want to say I was a pretty good artist, I did art all the way up to graphic design, and so that’s something I enjoy. I wouldn’t. I don’t know if it’s a talent, but, but yeah, I did some art in college and high school, and really enjoyed that.
What is something you know a weird amount about that isn’t related to something you teach?
probably, movie quotes, yeah, movie quotes, that’d probably be something that I’ve got a lot of useless just Movie Quotes stuck in my head and that come up in different situations, yeah, I probably know a lot of movie quotes that really do nothing for me.
Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
I think as a parent now, some of that changes when my kids have success, you know, that makes you feel proud as a parent, my kids have got to have a lot of success academically and athletically, you know, then, you know, something a little bit more personally, I was pretty proud, I went back to school to get my masters, because I knew I wanted to do it, but I also knew I didn’t take school very seriously when I was playing baseball so I wanted to go back, because I know I could, could do better and so I graduated with my master’s with a 4.0 so I was pretty proud of myself for being able to do that.
Who is someone you are thankful for and why?
you know, there’s, there’s a lot of people that have had a huge impact on my life, but, you know, probably biggest would be my dad, just seeing the work ethic that he had, saw how, you know, he he really touched a lot of people’s lives and had a positive impact on people and and I think, kind of similar to one of your previous questions, you know, people would always talk about like, how hard he was and tough on him in high School, but then later on, after high school, realizing why he was doing that and how much like that had an impact, because he was hard on him, on them, because he cared so much, you know, and so, you know, he had a huge impact on me, which is work ethic, how to treat others, you know, how to lead by example, by, you know, living Your life to high standards, so then you’re unable to push people to high standards also so yeah, my dad had a huge impact on my personal and professional life.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
don’t, don’t get so caught up on what might be perceived as failures that you know, we all go through challenging times, but what might be eating you up on that particular day and making you feel like you know this is the worst thing that’s ever happened that you know in five years, you’re not even going To remember it happening so, you know, maybe you know, not taking some situations so seriously that, that you know things are, you know, you just keep doing what’s right and working hard, things are going to work out all right, not, not getting too caught up on failures or struggles.
What do you hope to be remembered for?
My number one goal in life is, because I think it encompasses a lot of things, is to just leave it better than you found it and, you know, have a positive impact, you know so that’s one thing I try to say is, no, I want to live an impact driven life so if my, if my decision in doing something is, is it going to benefit somebody else, or other people than just me? Then, you know, that’s kind of how I want to be remembered as somebody that, you know, left things better than they found it, and they left a positive impact here.
What’s on your bucket list?
Um, I just had a recent conversation that one, you know, one thing that felt like I’ve kind of maybe missed out on,but was talking with one of our parents just about a couple weeks ago, Really wanted to learn how to fly when I was younger so, you know, that may be something that still may be on the bucket list, learn how to fly, but like to go to the Masters golf tournament, That would be pretty cool, never been to a World Series game. I think that would be pretty, pretty cool, Would like to go to the College World Series, but, but, yeah, I like to travel so anything that has to do with traveling, I’m for it.
What aspirations do you have for the future?
I try to focus on what needs to be done today, you know, I’d like to see Caney Creek athletics become, you know, a contender, you know, in all sports and everything here. Think a lot of sports are in the right direction with that so I’d like to see that get done. But, you know, past that, not a whole lot for the future, you know, I just, I want to, want to make today the best day that I can and tomorrow, you know, do the same thing and nothing if you do that, you know, good things in the future, I think you will end up with good opportunities in the future.
