How would other people describe your high-school self?
I would say people would have described me as involved, leadership-oriented, and motivated. I strived for success a lot.
Was there a career you wanted to pursue OR pursued before teaching?
It was always just about dancing for me. I used to want to perform, and for a while, I wanted to be a choreographer for celebrities.
What do you do outside of school for fun? Why?
Now I really just spend time with my dog; that’s enough for me. The things that I used to do for fun I don’t really have time for anymore.
Favorite book genres?
I absolutely love romance. That’s what I’m mostly into, I think.
When people get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn about you?
People are always surprised when they find out that I’m nice. I was told a lot in my first year of teaching that they thought I was mean because I have a serious face.
Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
Honestly, becoming certified to teach. I’ve been dancing since I was a little girl; I’m from Mexico, so I did cultural dances, and while it wasn’t always my dream to teach, I love being able to teach others.
Who is someone you are thankful for and why?
I love God, always. Of course, I am also very thankful for my family. I have a very supportive family, so it helped motivate me a lot to get where I am.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Have patience; don’t overthink the choices you make.
What do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope to not be remembered as a fun teacher necessarily, but a caring one. I want to see that my students are actually learning something. Even if dance may not be their favorite thing, they can always gain something from it.
What’s on your bucket list?
Definitely traveling. I haven’t gone anywhere beyond here and Mexico. I’ve always wanted to visit places like Korea, Japan, and Paris. Overall, I just really want to travel.
