How would other people describe you?
I am enthusiastic my history students back in the day would tell me I taught what hurts and pains this makes it stronger. I really really care about our students and staff. I wanna make sure that we have the best environment collection that’s used to them, not only academically but socially and community wise.
Was there a career you wanted to pursue OR pursued before teaching.
I graduated with a bachelors in history and in my dreams I wanted to work for foreign service especially the CIA as an analyst. I read a lot of Tom Clancy, Robert Lund books for newspapers, specifically advertising. My territory was the fair cypress area. I learned a lot. I learned how to deal with different types of people: Ads, responsible and responsive people, money newspapers in the central office, selling ads for individuals and for businesses and the same group that runs the Courier also runs the woodland villager and Cypress Creek. If you didn’t pay question looking for a dog and I have a backyard and so we’re looking for a house and I decided I needed a more stable paycheck because I was working at HC and I was working at Macy’s, which is a job I had through college there every summer Associate daycare teacher had lesson plans and I had another job to go back and get my certification for teaching alternative certification so I went through that and then with Harris community college teacher.
Tell us about how you got into teaching.
It was an accident to get my bachelor in history and applied for these jobs and nobody would take me. I didn’t have a human resources or business degree. I could do their job, that’s by the way, arrogant newspapers for three years and then I was like I’m tired of commission. What can I do well my mother teacher grew up around teaching so I decided I was going to go back to school to be a teacher And I did alternative certification so I did that and then I did my internship was spring ISD and middle school always wanted to teach high school but and so people are being in the CIA choices and I don’t think I am legit by material so I guess teaching history is a great thing and teaching research why I became a library.
What do you do outside of school for fun? Why?
I have a small tree garden and I like to fly fish.
When people get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn about you?
There’s a surprise to learn that I don’t just read all day. That’s a stereotype of librarians. I have an interest in technology and I love to do outdoor activities and explore different places.
Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
I had history class that was at a sophomore level. I had to listen to him drown on and on about how he met Kennedy the president. When he gave a test I did not know how to study at the time and I failed the fall semester, my favorite course in the first fall. I got a 40 out of my life, cried all the way home, but I am not gonna fail this class. I feel this class is gonna be awful to my parents. I failed, so I took everything he said, and then I took my book highlighted in annotated then I made myself flashcards, and I would sit in the study room with orange juice and bagels every day for like three hours and flash cars and flashcards in annotate and do outlines so I brought to the final to spring final I brought four blue books were you right? He gave us two essay questions and I wrote for 2 1/2 hours straight. That was the last one pencil was like down here and then he said it’s time to go so I was like oh great here My Mom well strangely enough in class I don’t know how that math worked, but I had the highest grade in the entire class and I was so amazed and I asked what doesn’t make sense. He’s like well you were so bad for the spring final and he said you did everything you remembered everything and you analyze it and frankly you got the best class you deserve, but you know about this whole scenario, the emotional roller coaster and everything I learned in person person if you don’t do that and you set yourself up to fail you will never be successful always think about it.
Who is someone you are thankful for and why?
Every person that comes into my life because I think from each person that you meet matter, student staff member store clerk or your family that you learn something from them different ways doing things and some corny jokes from other people, I learn patients from Missy, our assistant last year and organization my mother taught me perseverance she taught me how to set boundaries and goals.
What advice would you give to someone pursuing a career similar to yours?
We’re becoming more of a help center community center activities like my husband‘s friend when they were in elementary high school coming to Creek to talk about his work in space and he’s doing satellites. He has a contract for NASA right now and we’re so excited to come and visit, about more information like I go to my public library at Barbara Bush on cypresswood for their extension gardening centers gardening they do. all kinds of stuff like that. We also help with technology and applications and how to use them. I’m in a technology certification class right now. It was great. I had to go back to it because it’s due in August TCA and then when I worked for the public library during my internship, I actually got to do things like how to use your iPad training for adults and have videos on YouTube, but you can’t look them up.
What do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope to be remember sense of humor and my garden
What’s on your bucket list?
One day when it’s peaceful I’m sitting and it’s about 74° and the water is still clear. You can see all the fish and I do the perfect fly fishing from the boat and all and see every single place in the world and time travel to see all historical events.
