How would other people describe you?
I would say it’s pretty funny. Can explain things well and fun to be around.
Was there a career you wanted to pursue OR pursued before teaching.
I wanted to be an engineer, but I also wanted to coach and teach, but, like my parents, didn’t want me to be a teacher. So when I started school, I went for engineering, but then eventually I decided to go into teaching because that’s what my heart desired, or it was like where I wanted to go eventually. So I just followed my heart, and that’s where I ended up
Tell us about how you got into teaching.
So when I graduated, I had a job like a office where I worked. It wasn’t a big building, it wasn’t a tall building, and it wasn’t that fun. So I stopped doing that, and I started subbing at Moorhead, and I subbed there for a year, and they offered me a full time position, and I’ve been there ever since.
What do you do outside of school for fun? Why?
I like to exercise, stay healthy, play soccer, build things so you can hang out with my family friends, go fishing, and hunt.
When people get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn about you?
I think they’re most surprised about the variety of music I listen to. I listen to all types of music, and I know the words to a lot of songs. People don’t know that either.
Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
I think I’m most proud of just looking at myself at how far I’ve come as a teacher. When I first started teaching, I didn’t. I wasn’t sure if it was the right thing for me, and I felt like I was a bad teacher. But now I can look back and I see students who have graduated, who go to college, who have good careers, and my students now, they enjoy a lot of success, so it’s cool. I’m proud of how I’ve grown as a teacher.
Who is someone you are thankful for and why?
I’m definitely thankful for my mom and dad, but also all the teachers who’ve given me advice over the past few years and helped me become the teacher I am today.
What advice would you give to someone pursuing a career similar to yours?
Listen to the advice of others and try not to have too big of an ego and just try to get better, like a little better every day, reflective on your mistakes and the things you could have done better, and try to just look back and see what you could have done.
What do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope to be remembered just as a good person who was able to help as many people as possible.
What’s on your bucket list?
I want to go to Alaska at some point in my life, maybe like climbing a mountain up there or something.
