How would other people describe you?
They would describe me as very supportive and as a leader. I’m not one to bug , but the small mistakes, I’m more of like, okay, mistake, let’s make it up and get the next one. I’m very vocal on the team as if we’re doing something wrong, I’m going to correct you in a good way.
How and why did you start playing?
I started playing with my four brothers. I’m a little sister, so my four brothers played at home. I started playing because I never liked being inside the girls. I started to like it because I’m super competitive, and I feel I’m a very contact person .
Describe how you prepare before a game.
By waking up in the morning and clearing my head and just focusing on the game. I guess you just have to have your mind set before you even step on the court. It takes hours of just thinking about what you’re doing, preparing with your food, and being healthy.
What do you think your reputation is as an athlete?
I am dedicated. I am disciplined. I do take responsibility.
What personal superstitions or traditions do you have before, during or after a game?
Before a game I pray. I always pray for myself for any injury. I pray for the team. That they don’t get any injuries. I always put a braid in my shoes and a scripture in my shoes before every game.
Tell us about your favorite memory as an athlete either on or off the field.
One of my favorite memories as an athlete is Saturday practice with my team. That’s when we can simply play around. We always are focused and we’ll do friendly, competitive stuff. We’re making memories in the moment and practicing. We get close to the team, with our coaches and everything.
Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
I went to a tournament this summer in Chicago. Is the biggest Nike tournament. Me and my mom have been working on getting my rebounds for a game. For me, my rebound was to get 15 rebounds per game.
What advice would you give to people that may want to play your sport?
Dedication. Takes dedication. It takes wanting it because everyone can play basketball but to win basketball you have to want it. You have to be disciplined.
What’s on your bucket list?
I guess just to be successful as a person where I can take care of myself and not depend on anybody.
