How would other people describe you?
Good team player, very flexible with my schedule, being very adaptable, takes care of business, dependable, reliable, and hilarious. I would hope that’s what I strive to be and I hope people would also describe me as that.
Was there a career you wanted to pursue OR pursued before teaching.
I wanted to be a writer because it’s fun to create stuff.
Tell us about how you got into teaching.
I always knew I’d be good at it, I passed the test and got the job, and I always wanted to coach as well.
How did you know you were good at it?
By being passionate, caring, and putting in the work.
What do you do outside of school for fun? Why?
I read books, write, and watch a lot of TV. I play tennis, although I’m terrible at it. I also like to do trivia. I like to do it because it is an escape from work.
When people get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn about you?
I’m a huge nerd. I like to read a lot. Me and coach Kovach could talk for an hour about Star Wars.
Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
Being a good father to my daughter. By being there for her, I try to raise her to be a good citizen and be present in her life so she can be a person people enjoy. Just try to make her be the best version of herself.
Who is someone you are thankful for and why?
Mr. Nance, for allowing me to have someone to nerd out about Lord of the Rings with.
What advice would you give to someone pursuing a career similar to yours?
Take it seriously and be prepared. There’s a lot of work that goes into it, It’s not just teaching. There’s a lot of lesson planning, and it’s a lot of your own time outside of work hours. Just be prepared for that and care.
What do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope they remember me not because I made them laugh, but because I cared about them and I helped them in some way to get ready for the future.
What’s on your bucket list?
I want to travel to Japan. I want to live in another country for a few years. I want to experience the world. I feel like I’m getting old and I want to get started.
