Getting a Head Start on College

Apr 30, 2015
Saving money is the first thing that comes to a students’ mind when heading off to college but, what many do not know, is that students can get a head start by participating in college classes while still in high school.
Dual credit classes are offered by Lone Star Community College which allows high school students to gain some real life experience from former college professors in classes such as English and U.S History.
“Ms.Litts used to be a college professor, which helps you get great experience when you get into college,” junior Lucy Young said.
These courses let high school students be treated as college students.
“The late work policy is not like ‘oh turning it in [assignments] a day late is nine points off’, its’ like you don’t get to turn it in, you can’t slack off,” Young said.
Dual credit classes not only helps students construct higher thinking skills, but also helps save money on classes they would have to take during college.
“In dual credit you’re literally enrolled into Lone Star, so as long as you get a 75 or above, your getting credit as a Lone Star Montgomery student,” Young said.
Students must take a TSI test that cost $40 in order to be enrolled in these classes. To sign up, visit the college and career center or Lone Star Community College.
