The award for Teacher of the Year goes to… Karen Solberg and Elaine Cates and Humanitarian of the Year goes to Paulette Barnes. This Tuesday these three ladies will be awarded with these high honors.

For one of these teachers this isn’t her first time being awarded with Teacher of the Year.

“Yes, in 2005 and 2008, both times I was pregnant when I got Teacher of the Year! (NOT this year though),” A-P World History teacher Solberg said.

This is Paulette Barnes first ever Humanitarian award and she had quite a reaction.

“I was surprised and honored that others support what I do,” Barnes said.
Teacher of the Year can mean a lot to a person who is given the award.

“I am extremely honored,” English teacher Cates said.

Teacher of the Year is an award that is given to teachers by teachers. Teachers are nominated by by having a love for their profession.

“Love for teaching, love for teenagers, love for history, the desire to work hard to make those 3 things come together everyday!,” APWH teacher Solberg said.

If you see these teachers in the hall or you have them for a class, you should congratulate them on their amazing achievement. The teacher banquet will take place May 5 at the Lone Star Convention Center.
