Architecture.
Tell us about how you got into teaching.
When I was about 16 years old, give or take. Neighbor moved in across the street with a young boy, a single mom with a son who is like four years old. He didn’t know how to ride a bike, so I taught him how to ride a bike, and that kinda started hanging out.
What do you do outside of school for fun? Why?
I do woodworking like traditional, hand tool only, woodworking. I like to travel. I love seeing different places in the world, trying different foods.
When people get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn about you?
That I know sign language and that my wife is deaf.
Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
I’ve got four daughters, and I’ve been married for 15 years now.
Who is someone you are thankful for and why?
So my older master electrician that I learned under his name is Jim way, and when I was going through college, after working for him, I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to study, and he just said why not teach shop class like you, and just teach electrical or construction.
What advice would you give to someone pursuing a career similar to yours?
Don’t worry so much about getting the best grades, or don’t worry so much about getting the perfect score on your certification test. Worry more about doing the actual work of talking with students and building relationships.
What do you hope to be remembered for?
Just being a place where kids can come and get projects done.
What’s on your bucket list?
Oh, to go to japan and work on things like a pagoda temple or a shinto temple.
