How would other people describe you?
I’m very extroverted, like I’m a social butterfly, and I’m very smiley.
How and why did you start playing?
Well, my mom wanted me to learn how to swim, and then my instructor said I was really good at swimming and wanted me to try out for the swim team. So I started swimming on the swim team, and then I quit swimming and did other sports, and then I didn’t want to do softball my freshman year, so I joined swim.
Describe how you prepare before a game.
I usually get very nervous right before a meet. Not all the time it just depends on what position the couch puts me in.
What do you think your reputation is as an athlete?
Well I think I’m good at water polo. Swim, I’m kind of slow, but also at the same time, swim, yes, you’re trying to beat the other people in the other lanes, but at the same time you’re focusing on yourself and trying to beat your personal best. And, sometimes I feel like I don’t do my best. So that’s why I get nervous.
What personal superstitions or traditions do you have before, during or after a game?
We all go out to eat before or after, not really after. It’s mostly before, like we will go to Buffalo Wild Wings, or Mod’s pizza and we all just, sit there and just hang out and play games. Especially, when we have late water polo games, we all just sit there like one big family.
Tell us about your favorite memory as an athlete either on or off the field.
At our banquet when we’re saying goodbye to whoever our team captain is, That’s my favorite. Well, not in a bad way, but like, you just look back at all the memories and it’s all heart felt. I do cry a lot, because they are my family.
Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
I don’t think I’ve accomplished a big goal yet, but one thing I’m proud of is my brother joining water polo, and the fact that he looks up to me, that’s what I’m proud of. I can’t really say I’m proud about something I do, I’m just proud of being a role model and inspiration to my brother.
Who is someone you are thankful for and why?
I’m thankful for my couches because without them I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today.
What advice would you give to people that may want to play your sport?
Keep your head up. Do not panic in the water. Yes, it gets hard, but it’s all worth it, and you get an amazing family with whatever team you have.
What’s on your bucket list?
Moving to Europe.
