How would other people describe you?
They would describe me as somewhat sarcastic but also loyal.
Was there a career you wanted to pursue OR pursued before teaching.
Oh, absolutely. I changed my mind a lot. I’ve always wanted to be a teacher in the back of my brain, but I wanted to be a copywriter for a little while, and I still have aspirations of being a creative writer.
Tell us about how you got into teaching.
Well, my mother taught at Caney Creek actually, for about 15 years, So I grew up with her influence and because of her I wanted to be a teacher.
What do you do outside of school for fun? Why?
I love to read and I like to play board games and card games because I like strategy.
When people get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn about you?
They’re most surprised to learn that I did FFA in high school.
Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
One time when I was a kid, I was a horseback rider, and I had a deep seated fear of horseback riding, which is not a good way to be. And I was in a competition where I was jumping, and the horse decided to not go to the jump, but go into the jump, and it broke the reins. I fell off, and I got up. I jumped up. I didn’t cry at all. And I was like, okay, it’s fine. Everything’s good. And the fact that I didn’t get upset. I kept my cool. And then, of course, horseback riding with that, it kind of bridged into keeping my cool for others, even though I was afraid, and so I was really proud of myself.
Who is someone you are thankful for and why?
Miss Garrett, is someone who was a mentor to me when I first became a teacher, and I consider her a close friend, and she taught me a lot about interacting with people and building peoples trust.
What advice would you give to someone pursuing a career similar to yours?
I would tell someone who’s interested in a similar path as mine, to explore as much as you can at a young age, so it’s okay if you’re still in school, and I know it’s expensive, but try something that maybe you’ve never tried before, but don’t stick to common paths, just because everyone else is Telling you to. Try to do lots of other things.
What do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope to be remembered for my sense of humor and for my kindness.
What’s on your bucket list?
I would love to go to China or Japan.
