Two new counselors add to the sea of change that has washed unto Caney Creek.

Tiffany Rhodriquez came last year to replace Janice Lovelace as lead counselor and Jan Strother-Lindberg is replacing Rachelle Perry, who became a counselor at Oak Ridge High School.

Rhodriquez was interested in the position as soon as it became available last year saying that it “seemed like it was just something that was supposed to happen.”

Although Rhodriquez knew that she always wanted to be a teacher then a counselor, that wasn’t the route she took.

She went to Sam Houston State University and got her bachelor’s in criminal justice, before going on to work in juvenile facilities and then as an adult probation officer.

She said she “got to see so many levels of people…all the different stories that kids went through” has helped her in her career.

This is her 12th year in education and 10th as a counselor. She said she hopes to just “get through” her first year in the new position.

Strother-Lindberg is a graduate of Louisiana State University where she majored in psychology before getting her master’s in education.

After she graduated, she and her husband relocate for his job and she began teaching in Florida. After bouncing around for a while she finally landed in Texas and chose to begin her ninth year as a counselor – this time at CCHS.

Strother-lindberg decided to become a counselor after receiving a letter from one of her 12th grade, English students informing her about abuse that was going on at home.

She said she felt like she could do more for her students saying she “really wants to help them succeed.”
