The boys and girls soccer teams ended their regular seasons strong. They may not be done yet.

The boys team locked up a spot in the postseason with a stellar performance during the regular season and could be the district champions. The girls team also made a run at the playoffs this year.

Both the boys district champion and girls team’s playoff hopes have already been decided by the time this newspaper was published, but were not decided before the newspaper was sent to press.

The girls soccer teams have been stable in every part of the field. They have gotten faster and their passings have improved.

“Passing looks really good this year, ball up and shooting looks really good too,” girls coach Gretchen Kloes said.

The girls have been replacing defensive positions that were needed to be filled up. Junior Kenia Segovia said their getting use to each other.

“The communication has to go on in and out of the field,” Segovia said. “ We made it work, and each game we just keep getting better and an awesome defense as a group.”

Something that both soccer teams did different this year from last year was that they ran with the cross country after school and that made them faster. The girls had more kids this summer for speed and weight camp.

“The girls are getting faster and have increased their pace,” Kloes said.

This year compared to last year, the boys have had a consistent district season. Only suffering one loss against Kingwood Park. Junior Abel Castillo said the team works hard everyday.

“Every Tuesday and Friday night that work reflects on the game,” Castillo said. “We are very happy with how the team has played every game due to the hard work.”

A new thing this year is that they boys soccer team have added in a third team. The purpose is to have more people involved, and for players to look forward playing time so they can increase their speed and technique. Sophomore Mario Rangel said it gives more freshman a chance to be in the program.

“In the past, only the best freshman could be in the program, but now there’s a chance for more freshman to develop,” Rangel said.

McGregor said the boys have being doing well from practicing more and being more focused while at practice. Some of the goals the team had was getting physically stronger, faster, and technically better.

“We’re always adding things, could be summer camp for younger athletes,” McGregor said, looking forward to next year.
