New faces. New schools. Different sports. Intense competition.

The University Interscholastic League announced the new spring alignments for the 2018-2019 school year.

In academics and cross country, the new district includes Conroe Grand Oaks, Humble Kingwood Park, Huntsville, Montgomery, Montgomery Lake Creek, New Caney, New Caney Porter, Tomball and Willis.

UIL Academic Coordinator Stephen Green said that while the district lost tough schools they added several more.

“I think that we might have an easier time making it to academic regionals,” Green said. “But our region got tougher.”

The new districts for baseball, softball, soccer and tennis include Humble, Kingwood Park, Huntsville, Montgomery, Montgomery Lake Creek, New Caney, New Caney Porter, Tomball and Willis.

Baseball coach Kristopher Carroll said that the alignment didn’t really change all that much for them.

“The competition is still there,” Carroll said. “Just looking forward to playing different teams.”

The new alignment for wrestling includes Conroe Grand Oaks, Humble Kingwood Park, Katy Paetow, Richmond Foster, Rosenberg Lamar Cons, Rosenberg Terry, Waller, Willis, Lamar Fulshear, Needville and New Waverly.

Wrestling coach Jacob Ferguson said they added four more schools and had one school (Humble) move up to 6A.

“We compete against 6A schools all season, so I do not see where our district changing would have any effect on our level of success,” Ferguson said.

For the swim team, they will be facing Baytown Lee, Conroe Grand Oaks, Crosby, Humble Kingwood Park, New Caney, and New Caney Porter. Only the girls will face Onalaska, along with the previously mentioned.

Swimming coach Michael Molenaar said this is a big change for their district.

“All of these schools have good teams and dedicated coaches,” Molenaar said. “Kingwood Park and Porter especially are absolute powerhouses. I look forward to being able to compete against these teams.”
