Superlatives being announced at Sweetheart Dance
Feb 1, 2019
Administration will announce Senior Superlatives during the Sweetheart dance next Saturday.
Administration has decided superlatives should be announced at the Sweetheart dance so that winners can have their pictures in the yearbook. The yearbook has to be sent in by the third week of March, so the only way for awards to be recognized is to vote for them in early spring.
Senior class sponsor Nicole Brodie says that the class was very upset about the change and that they are really disappointed in the decision.
“The senior class feels like their voice was not heard in making this decision,” Brodie said. “There was a petition going around and students were discussing how angry they were with their lack of involvement in what they feel is a very important decision for their class. They believe that administration did not give them a chance to voice their concerns and offer other options to this situation.”
Despite many seniors being angered, there are still some students who are fine with superlatives being announced at the Sweetheart Dance. Senior Matthew Clemmer said
he just wants to win “Class Clown”.
“Personally, I don’t care,” Clemmer said. “If it’s at the sweetheart dance, it’s at the sweetheart dance. I just want my award.”
After multiple conversations with the administration, senior class, and senior class officers, they have decided there will be no change in announcing superlatives.
