Conroe ISD will be closed next week March 16-20 in order to keep the health and safety of students in their best interest. 

Caney Creek High School has been cleaned with e-mist electrostatic sprayers since the beginning of February according to Principal Dr. Jeffrey Stichler.  Free meals will be distributed to students on Tuesday, March 17 and Thursday, March 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be prepared by CISD food service personnel. 

“This is a virus that we need to be cautious about, but we should not panic,” Principal Dr. Jeffrey Stichler said. “We have a great community, and with everyone’s help and cooperation, we will get through this situation quickly and safely.”

In stores, items are being limited to the public due to a large rush on household goods.

“Hopefully it’s just a lot of hype and panic, but trying to be aware and cautious,” Walmart customer James Hallam said. “More worried about not having supplies if we get quarantined. Less worried about getting the virus ourselves.”

People are only being allowed to take two water packs and face other restrictions on toilet paper, paper towels, and even food. Other stores are out of stock from supplies only leaving empty shelves.

“We are stocking up on supplies like Germ X, Lysol, and Clorox wipes,” senior Kenya Castro said. “We went to other stores [because we are having trouble finding supplies]. I’m kinda afraid because it’s killing a lot of people.”

HCA Houston Healthcare in Conroe is limiting the amount of visitors that can enter the hospital. Only two visitors are allowed at a time in a patient’s room now because of the virus. Every entrance will be monitored to make sure they have a visitor sticker and that they use hand sanitizer before entering.

“Temporary Visitor Restrictions, HCA Houston Healthcare remains focused on efforts regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19) and is [taking] steps to safeguard our staff, patients and the communities we serve,” the hospital said in a handout . “In an abundance of caution, we’ve implemented the following visitor restrictions.”

Texas Education Agency and the CISD school board will decide whether students should make up the week that will be missed due to the COVID-19.
