The boys and girls cross country teams had a good start to their 2020 seasons.

The girls took first place at the Huffman Relays on Saturday, led by Itzela Darkenwald and Montse Ramos, who placed first as a duo by two minutes. The pair of Lilian Morales and Natalie Barker placed fourth, while the pair of Brisa Salgado and Jazmin Salazar placed sixth.

The boys team placed second. The pair of Thomas Crider and Morgan Vahter finished second overall followed by Alex Castillo and Luis Morales who finished third, and Steven Rubio and Jose Luis Pena who finished seventh.

Cross country meets, limited in size due to COVID-19 restrictions from UIL, had a new format with runners being ranked as pairs rather than individuals.

Cross country will compete again Saturday at Barbers Hill.
