Girls basketball goes to playoffs first time in 15-years
Feb 10, 2021
The girls basketball team will compete in the playoffs for the first time in 15 years in a game against College Station on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at home.
The Lady Panthers went 10-15 during the entire season and 7-7 in district games, solidifying the fourth place spot for the district.
“I’m a competitor and I hold my girls to the same standard,” girls basketball coach Kasey Teich, a Caney Creek alumna, said. “We are going to compete and if we win, it’s because we earned that and if we lose, it’s because that team was the better team and not because we allowed them to beat us. We don’t quit and we will fight until that clock runs out.”
Teich said that they faced problems with COVID, eligibility, and injuries. Through these problems, they also accomplished a lot.
“A major accomplishment that they achieved was to simply change their mentality from ‘we’ll try’ to ‘we believe’ and going out there to accomplish something that hasn’t been done in fifteen years,” Teich said. “I love that I am their coach, and I was given some very head strong seniors who really have grown this season and bought into a philosophy that has been different from the past. I love that I am back at my alma mater creating a program that I have always wanted. This is a huge accomplishment for me because I was on the last two playoff teams that went back to back in 2005 and 2006.”
The Lady Panthers look to make a statement against College Station High School on Thursday.
