As power outages threaten to last through the night while temperatures plunge into sub-zero levels, three warming centers will be open tonight for those who need it.

According to County Judge Chief of Staff Jason Millsaps, three warming centers will be open to the public through Monday night. The locations are:

Under Over Fellowship Church
600 S Frazier St., Conroe, TX

Church Project
602 Pruitt Rd., The Woodlands, TX

The Lone Star Convention & Expo Center
9055 Airport Rd., Conroe, TX

Madeley Ranch Elementary
3500 Madeley Ranch Rd. Montgomery, TX 77356

The Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management warned that temperatures will remain low.

“Take steps NOW to insulate your home,” the OEM sent in a news release. “Reduce heat loss by covering windows and door thresholds with towels, blankets or plastic. NEVER use a stove, oven or grill to heat your home. Carbon Monoxide poisoning is a real threat!”

Also be aware of carbon monoxide poisoning:

  • Do NOT leave vehicle idling in the garage
  • Do not use an unsafe heating device indoors
  • Place generators outdoors & away from windows

“We would like to remind our citizens to only call 911 in the event of an emergency,” the OEM said. “All county road closures can be found via MCTX LIVE. Additionally, please follow the Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for the most up to date information.”

A wind chill warning is in effect for Southeast Texas, and anyone who does not have access to heat should make their way to one of the warming centers as soon as possible. Do not attempt to hold out in the cold weather, as temperatures are expected to reach sub-zero levels with wind chill.
