The varsity football team got off to a strong start in their first non-district home game against New Caney, showing that Caney Creek is a different team this year. It clearly wasn’t easy scoring on the Panther’s defense as the offensive picked up from where they left off last year.

“We stressed defense in the off-season,” head coach Brent Verzwyvelt said. “And we are very pleased with our defense because they played really well in the scrimmage against Humble and New Caney this past week.”

Senior quarterback Robert Gordon and the offense had New Caney’s defense guessing all night with the option attack. The Panthers finished off Friday night by topping off New Caney 35 – 14.

The football team had a short week as they prepared for the Porter Spartans on September 5^th. The game will be on Thursday instead of Friday.
