Caney Creek Selected from Area of Schools to Attend “The Business of Sports”
Oct 14, 2013
Caney Creek was one of five high schools selected to go to the Junior Achievement program, “The Business of Sports,” presented by BBVA Compass and the Houston Dynamo. Student Support Program Coordinator Cindy Horn, Business teacher Tiffany Mayhew and Business in Marketing teacher Sharon Cheney selected and asked 40 students to attend the trip.
The program was geared towards students wanting to go into sport management but it also had a lot of useful information about how to keep a great work ethic and prepare for the real world.
“The panel at the event gave a lot of helpful information,” senior Elissa Griffin said. “I learned so much about how businesses work with sports.”
Every school that attended the event was given a stadium tour. However, this wasn’t a normal tour. The tour guide talked about every job in the stadium and the responsibilities for that job.
“The stadium tour was cool,” senior Brandy Wolf said. “We saw a lot of behind the scene jobs that take place during every game.”
After the program was over, all attending students received two Houston Dynamo tickets for the upcoming game against Kansas City on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Junior Achievement hopes that their program brought some closure to the students that had questions about what it is like to be in the business of sports and how to be a great worker out in the real world.
