The Creek Saves Lives in the Blood Drive

Every year, students over the age of 16 donate blood in the Fall Blood drive. This blood drive is put on by the student trainers in coordination with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. On Nov. 20, during all periods of the day, students were pulled from their classes to give blood.

“I’ve donated since sophomore year,” senior Marisol Alquicira said. “I like to help and know that I’m saving a life.”

Blood donated during the drive goes towards people who need blood transfusions of plasma. Each donated unit goes to save three lives.

“I felt tired after, but I always feel tired,” senior Jessica Yanez said. “They just put the needle in you and you lay there for a while with your feet propped up.”

Students, after the donation process is finished, are given juices and foods that will serve to replenish nutrients. With the season of giving thanks and being thankful upon us, every donation is appreciated.
