German Club Made Their Way to State
Feb 6, 2014
Seniors Tessa Ehrman, Devin Harris, and Lucas McCutchen took part in Houstonfest, which is a German based high school competition to celebrate German tradition and culture in the US. The group took part in two events, gingerbread house making and also a video production all in German.
“We made the German government building, Reichstag, as a gingerbread house, and also made a short film about learning how to be a good person” said Ehrman.
The Reichstag is a german building that is important to the German people, as it has stood since WWII and been rebuilt after the war. It stands as a memorial to all the German people have been through since the birth of the country.
The film, Ein Gutes Ding, (One Good Thing) the team had made focuses on how to be a good person.
It includes a very big icon in Germany’s Christmas, Krampus, who is a demon sent by Saint Nicholas to take care of the bad children. It also includes a new way of looking at being a good person.” Ehrman said, “Sometimes people can be really nasty and not realize what they’re doing. In the film the main character is turned into a puppet by Krampus, and can only be changed back if he does at least one good thing”
McCutchen and Ehrman started working on the script for Ein Gutes Ding in Dec and finished a week before competing. On Feb 1st the group was awarded 3rd place and have advanced to state.
