Seniors Setting Up for After Graduation
Mar 28, 2014
Plans after high school are often some of the hardest to pin down for many seniors. The process of applying to colleges, writing scholarship essays and doing everything else that is part of the admissions process is often long and complicated.
“I’m going to take six months to a year just to travel,” senior Desirae O’steen said. “I’m gonna go live a little, see the world before I have to go back to school for another four years.”
Still, seniors continue to do it to set up their careers and other aspects of their life in the future.
“I want to go to the University of Houston and go into their business or restaurant and hotel management classes,” senior Michael Rojas said.
Business is a promising field for many students, as it can lead to careers in accounting, teaching, jobs at business firms, non-profit jobs or even a job in the government.
“I want to go to business school and learn how to run a business,” senior William Vaughan said. “Eventually, I want to have an oilfield company in my name.”
One of the leading choices for many students is Lone Star Community college. With many different locations, it is easy to commute to and offers a flexible class schedule, especially for those students that plan on working.
“I’m going to Lone Star,” senior Dalton Wickham said. “I’m going to get my associates degree of business.”
Military is also a part of many seniors plans for the future. Enlisting in the military provides students with many benefits, including technical training. It also pays for the college educations of those who sign up.
“After high school, I am going to Navy boot camp to become a hospital corpsman,” senior LaKota King said.
Some seniors, however, have plans that are a little less rigid than the military option.
“I want to be a special effects makeup and hair artist or a stage actress,” senior Megan Ward said. “Definitely something in the entertainment industry.”
Though the plans of each senior differ individually, it is clear that everyone has something planned after high school. From college to work to travel, there’s something to look forward to after graduation.
