After losing to Cleveland for the past three years, this year the school won against them for the first time. It is one of the best games of this season, according to head football coach Kendall Hineman.
“Find a way to win three ball games, that was our goal that we came into the year with,” Hineman said. “We’ve won more games than we have since 2014.”
“Best game won for the football team was against Cleveland because they’ve been a rival to us,” senior Travarius Jackson said. “It finally feels good to get back at Cleveland.”
According to Hineman, something the football team could have done differently is finishing up the games. The games the team lost were due to a high number of turnovers.
“The only thing we would do differently is to make sure that they know the importance of holding onto the ball,” Hineman said.
Hineman plans on moving freshman to varsity next year so the players can get used to drills and practice.
“They (upcoming seniors) can improve by trusting each other more,” Jackson said. “Knowing that you’re gonna count for the person next to you. Someone who is going to have your back.”
Even though the boys went 3-3 this season, Hineman is satisfied with how the football season played out so far. Players not skipping practice, being there, having determination and working hard is what Hineman wants the school to know about how driven the team is.
“We could have done better or we could have won some games we were supposed to,” Hineman said. “But, overall wise, very satisfied, but there’s still a lot to work on.”
