Prom is a monumental event for every high school student. Girls and guys plan ahead to prepare for every aspect of it, from dresses to dinner. This year, the dance was 1920’s themed. The height of classical style and flashy dress were embodied by Caney Creek students on the night of May 17.

“My favorite part was just being able to have a nice night with friends,” senior Victoria Amyx said.

The annual prom dance is a tradition that originated in the 1800’s. Popularized in the 1950’s, prom carries many traditions that are still observed today.

“My date brought me a flower corsage that I wore on my wrist,” junior Erin Wood said. “It matched his boutonniere.”

Pictures with dates and family are also a prom custom; one that mothers and fathers drag out with varying poses and positions.

“I took pictures with my mom, my dad, and my boyfriend before prom,” senior Samone Lindgram. “I also have pictures with just him and I.”

Prom 2014 was held at the Lone Star Convention and Expo Center, providing plenty of room for dancing, DJ’s and even a car.

“They had this red, old-fashioned car that was really cool,” senior Danielle Imai said. “It was roped off so no one touched it, but it really fit the theme.”

For most, prom was more than just a chance to dress up and have a night out. Prom marked the true end of their experience as a high school student.

“It was the last time we could really see each other and it wasn’t just the awkward passing in the hallways,” senior Rebecca Lowe said. “There was a sincere and genuine happiness to see each other and hang out. This was the last time to really let loose and be ourselves. The night ended way too soon.”
