The Class of 2016 swept the Powder Puff tournament by eliminating the freshman team and then demolishing the Class of 2015. Sophomore Kaylee Derossett scored all nine touchdowns for her team.

“It was a great time,” Derossett said. “I scored nine touchdowns and it felt good winning it all.”

Even though the Class of 2015 fell in the championship game, they were in great spirits as they scrambled to put a team together at the last minute.

“We didn’t have that many players at first,” junior Megan Brantley said. “When the first game got canceled, it actually helped us because more girls were able to play.”

Powder Puff empowers the girls to show off and have fun for the benefit of their class.

“Powder Puff allows girls to play football,” senior Taylor Rocka said. “I’m really aggressive and I was able to show my aggression since football is an aggressive sport.”

At the Powder Puff games the boys dressed up as cheerleaders and come up with their own routine to pump up the crowd.

“It was a lot of fun dressing up and getting the crowd to cheer,” senior Ben Staggs said. “We attempted a pyramid and it was actually pretty good.”

This year’s Powder Puff tournament featured concessions and fun booths for the fans. The Sophomore class sold pizza and baked goods, National Art Society face painted, Orchestra hosted water balloon fights, the Be The Change Team sold balloon animals, and the Starlettes sold snow cones.

“It was a great activity for the girls,” Starlette Director Heidi Kloes said. “They were out there to support and raise money for next year’s program.”
