The first play has come and gone for the CCHS theater group and the rest of the season is on the horizon.

The theater group opened this year’s season with the non-musical version of “Phanton of the Opera” and will next perform a children’s play in October.

Jewel Simmons played Christine, the lead female role the story centers around.

“I love this play because I love how pretty of a show it is and the tech aspects in the play,” she said. “I have been working on this play since last year.”

The best part of the play for her was getting to hang out with the people in the play while the hardest was memorizing all the lines.

Haleigh Huggins, another performer in the play, said she loved all the surprises.

“Like when the body was thrown off of the top deck out of no where,” she said. “I also love this play because it is dramatic just like me.”

Dean Lanjehennig’s was another cast member and played two different roles.

“The hardest part for me is getting into two roles,” he said. “I love this play because it gives me more range. I also love this play because of the people I have worked with.”

Zoe Meyers liked this play because how the phantom can play two characters in one play and also the tech aspects.

“I love learning how to act and how to be a better actor. I like this play and the people I work with because I am like the mom of the group,” she said.

Charlene Ingle, tech theater teacher and director, said the unique aspect to their version of “Phantom of the Opera” is that there is no music, compared to its famous counterpart composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

“This play is different from the musical because they added their own things such as the boat scene,” she said.

Ingle picked this play, she said, because she thought it would be a good challenge for the crew and it would help bring in a crowd for the upcoming plays.

The next plays the theater group will be the children’s play in October, the Renaissance Festival performances in November, UIL One Act in the spring and The talent show, Talentine, in February.
