D-Day: The plan after the Queen’s passing

“London Bridge is down”. Was the phrase that was said to the Prime Minister when the Queen of England died. Queen Elizabeth ll passed away peacefully in her estate, at 96 Balmoral Castle in the Scottish highlands on Sept. 8, 2022 at 12 a.m. EST. Immediately after her passing, Prince Charles became King of England. Afterwards the United Kingdom will go into 10 pre-planned days of mourning dubbed as “D-day through D-day+10” according to the queens funeral planners.

D-Day 0: The day after the queens passing 

King Charles and his consort arrived at London and held his first audience with the prime minister. Later that day, the king televised to the country and commonwealth that royal mourning had commenced. This will last up to seven days after the funeral which will be held on Sep 12 2022. Then the day of the queen’s funeral is honored and becomes a public holiday.

D-Day 1: Declaration of the new king

The ascension council meets at St. James’s Palace London and proclaims Charles the new monarch. The king then holds his first privy council and makes his personal declaration and oath toward the city of London.

D-Day 2: Queens casket delivered to Holyroodhouse 

The Queen’s coffin is then delivered from Balmoral Castle to Edinburgh. Where, the coffin will rest in the throne room at the palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh until the afternoon of Sept. 12, 2022

D-Day 3: Prayers to the queen

Then both the King and Queen consort flew to Edinburgh and to attend a service prayer for the life of the Queen at St. Giles Cathedral. That afternoon a ceremonial procession will form at Holyroodhouse and will convey the coffin to St. Giles Cathedral.

D-Day 4: Queens Delivery

The Queen’s coffin is flown from the Edinburgh airport to London by the Royal Air Force. Once her coffin arrives in London, she is driven to Buckingham palace, where she will rest in the Bow Room.

D-Day 5: Paying respects 

The first ceremonial is held in London as the Queen’s coffin is transported in a gun carriage from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall for her to stay in a lying state. As the lying state begins, thousands of people come to visit and pay their respect for the queen.

Sept. 15-17, 2022

D-Day 6-8: Queens lying state

For the next few days, Queen Elizabeth will rest in her coffin at Westminster Hall London until her funeral date.

D-Day 9: The Royal Families arrive at London

Many royal families including the main royal family are expected to arrive in London for the Queen’s funeral.

D-Day 10:The Queen’s funeral

The Queens public funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey in London. Her coffin will be transported from the Palace of Westminster to Westminster Abbey with members of the royal family following at foot. This will be televised worldwide and there will be a national 2 minutes of silence in her honor. Later that day at St George’s chapel, there will be a private burial service that will be attended by the members of the royal family.
