NJROTC defeats Seaford in first-year air rifle contest

Shooting its highest score of the season, the NJROTC’s first-year air rifle shooters defeated Seaford High School of Felton, Delaware, 879.5 to 624.3 in the 2023 National Air Rifle New Shooter League. Caney Creek’s NJROTC was led by Leland Orvis who shot a 246.5. The remaining contributing members were Abraham Hernandez, William Clary and Lucca Villeda.

Overall NJROTC is No. 43 against 76 other programs nationwide and currently has a 1-1 record. The competitions are held virtually.

The group will compete next against Kaiser High School from Honolulu.

Last week, No. 4 Norview High School of Norfolk, Virginia, defeated Caney Creek 1063.2 to 799.0. Orvis led CCHS in that match as well with a 249.3. The remaining contributing members were Hernandez, Sierra Watson, and Clary.
