The winter chill of January remains unbothered until late March to early April, so sunbathers are left waiting.
Everyone has their own reasons to tan. Mine: I turn ghostly pale in the winter, as if my life was sucked out of me.
So, I turn to self tanners: clear gels, mouses, or lotions.
But instead of a nice golden bronze, after hours of struggling with application, I turned orange. The Tanologist Hydrating Gradual Tan Lotion solves this dilemma.
No Gatekeeping
Sold at Ulta, Target, Amazon, Walgreens and Walmart or Tanologist’s website, this product comes in three different versions, each with two sets of shade ranges and different ingredients. I prefer the medium-to dark purple bottle. It contains Hyaluronic Acid, Squalane & Beta glucan to “deeply nourish skin” and give a “sun-kissed glow.”
Exposing the Details
Though advertised as a body lotion, I’ve found it works on my face too, with no irritation — even with my sensitive, acne prone skin.
Big disclaimer, read the ingredients and do a test patch before putting it on your face. Everyone’s skin is different!
The product is milky white, avoiding any chance at staining clothes, towels, or bed sheets.
Upon application, it’s lightweight, making application easy, and has a mild, pleasant salon like fragrance. When massaged in, it feels cooling and hydrating without being heavy or oily.
It dries down within a couple minutes, so you can move freely without messing it up. Because it’s a gradual tanning lotion, you don’t have to wash it off.
However, once it’s been on for several hours, it smells strongly of coffee. You can shower and the scent will die down, but keep in mind, if you are sensitive to fragrance, it’s best to avoid this product.
Applied evenly, the finished product yields a very natural color, even after days of using it, and smooths skin complexion.
After a couple showers, the color fades. This is expected since it is less intensive than a typical self tan. You can simply reapply daily to keep your desired shade.
I would definitely recommend purchasing this product. Tan out of tan!
