The UIL Academic team had a strong showing at the Waller UIL Invitational Jan. 26-27. Caney Creek placed fourth out of 17 teams.
- In calculator applications, the team of Nick Paredes, Nathan Lehew, Jeremiah Reno and Uriel Ibarra placed third.
- In computer applications, Erick Garcia placed 9th.
- in current issues and events, Nicole Rodriguez placed 10th and Dulce Mendoza placed 9th. The team, combined with Anthony Fernandez and Melissa Hernandez, placed 3rd overall.
- In literary criticism, Emily Hause placed 2nd and Sofia Hause placed 9th. in speech & debate:
- Steven Brown placed second in informative extemp.
- Breshad Robinson placed third in persuasive extemp.
- Both Steven and Breshad closed out finals of Lincoln-Douglas debate and were tournament co-champions.
- Ava Aldridge placed 9th in LD debate.
- Camila Blancas was the tournament champion in storytelling.
- Caney Creek took 2nd place speech team overall.
- in journalism: Cason Smith placed 5th in copy editing and 4th in editorial writing. Justin Esteban placed 4th in copy editing and 3rd in headline writing. Margarita Rangel placed 3rd in copy editing and 2nd in editorial writing. Despite it being their first time at a meet, the journalism team placed third overall.
- The social studies team dominated the meet, coming in first place by a landslide. Karla Torres placed 8th. Edgar Mazariegos placed 3rd. Daniela Vargas placed 2nd. Sophia Schaloff was the tournament champion.
The team competes again Feb. 10 at Tomball.
