Severe rain shuts down school

School is canceled tomorrow May 3, 2024, after heavy rain began flooding the area and is scheduled to make a comeback in surrounding areas. All district campuses including the school, will be closed and school will resume Monday May 6, 2024.

“I think this is an opportunity for us once again to slow down and not only look at our situation, but look at the greater picture for our fellow families in Conroe ISD,” Superintendent Curtis Null said. “And lift them up in prayer and find ways to support them not just in the next few days, but over the coming weeks as they try to put their lives back together. I believe that’s what we do in this community, it’s a part of what makes us special.”

Inclement weather began early in the morning around 6 a.m. Despite the rain and flooding, school was not canceled or dismissed early today, May 4, 2024.

The San Jacinto River Authority reportedly increased the flow out of Lake Conroe into the San Jacinto river and its tributaries, according to Null in a live update made by the district at 11:30 a.m. River flooding and mobility issues are expected throughout not just the Caney Creek feeder, but all of Montgomery county.

All afterschool activities and events were canceled, including the orchestra and NJROTC banquets. The Top 15% senior breakfast, originally scheduled for tomorrow, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 8 a.m. as stated by Principal Dr. Terri Benson in an email to parents.

However, prom will continue as scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.

Further updates to be posted.
