On Friday, August 12th, Fish Camp started out with the undergraduates entering the auditorium to begin a quick slideshow about what the school is based on. Also, explaining the rules and regulations that need to be followed.
“The presentation was good, I like everything around here. I want to be the first one in my family to graduate,” freshman Lesly Martinez said.
The students were shown the clubs and groups that are available for them to join. The class of 2020 has high expectations, but they have to start by learning the layout out of the school.
“I came to figure out how these halls are. It’s confusing here and I need someone to tell me what’s going on,” freshman Mickey Zavala said.
Many newcomers already have an objective for the next four years in mind. Some came with very high expectations that they got from family members who have gone through the high school experience. They have in mind what clubs or sports they want to join and how they want to excel academically. They want these 4 years to be successful and effective.
“I’m interested in the soccer team, and I want a letterman jacket. My sister inspired me” freshman Jesus Gonzalez said.
Teenagers spend most of their hours at school and therefore many personal goals are involved. The overall target for these students is to graduate high school. The high school experience can be difficult for some, hence the fact they want to stay away from many negative obstacles.
“I want to avoid drama and difficulties, and be accomplish in sports and academic things” Jackie Martinez said.
Fish camp gave incoming freshmen a chance to form an impression about the school, the staff and their classmates before their first day of school. Hopefully the visit makes a difference for them on the first day of their high school career and for the next four years!
