Cheer becomes UIL State Spirit Champions

The Caney Creek Co-ed Cheerleading team competed at the UIL State Spirit Championships hosted at the Fort Worth Convention Center on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024.

The team competed against 37 other co-ed cheer teams, having the highest score of their division at 98.33.

They now hold the 2nd highest event score in any division and the highest co-ed score on record since 2015 and being the first cheer team in CISD to have won 1st place state medal. 

They will now be competing at the NCA Nationals Friday, Jan. 19, 2024 and Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas.

Rebeca Solis is a reporter at Caney Creek High School. She is currently in her final year of high school band, and is a member of the high school tennis team.

Lizette Fierros, Yearbook Editor-in-Chief
Liz Fierros is photographer and one of the Yearbook editors-in-chief on the Student Media staff. She's been in staff for three years now and is apart of clubs such as National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club, StuCo, and UIL Journalism. She enjoys doing arts and crafts and listening to music as well as taking pictures of about anything in nature. (she also loves nat and marg)
Justin Esteban
Justin Esteban, Photojournalist
Justin Esteban is a photographer for Student Media at Caney Creek high school and Commercial Photography II. He is in his first year on Student Media, he also participates in Commercial Photography II. Where he along with his other photographers, produce products such as portraits, advertising, and involvement in Competitions such as ATPI. He has experience in capturing school ran events such as the 2023 Prom, IBC Awards, Wedding Extravaganza, and designed and sold printable holiday cards.  He was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Texas in 2015. He enjoys reading books, writing fictional stories, watching shows/movies, and caring for his cat, Simba, and dog named Rocky.
Litzy Sanchez
Litzy Sanchez, Photojournalist
Litzy Sanchez is a photographer for Student Media at Caney Creek high school. She also plays for the girls' soccer team and is involved in Key club. Other than Student Media, Litzy is part of FFA and has been a part of this program for three years. She has also been playing for the girls' soccer team for four years as a right wing, an attacking and defensive center mid. During soccer she has received the leadership award and she has been team captain.
Julio Mejia
Julio Mejia, Photojournalist
Julio Mejia is a photographer at Caney Creek High School. This  is his first year being in the yearbook staff. He is also in the school's chamber orchestra and participates in student council.
