NBA player Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna Marin Onore, along with seven other passengers died yesterday shortly before 10 a.m., according to https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-01-26/aircraft-slams-into-hillside-explodes-in-flames-near-calabasas

Bryant had planned to attend a basketball practice at Mamb Sports Academy in Thousand Oak until his private helicopter crashed into a hillside in Calabasas, California. 

“People will never forget this,” freshman Ethan Lozano said.  “It’s crazy and really hard to believe. I thought this (was) fake news until later realizing it was real; Kobe, man I remember seeing him in real life like it was yesterday crazy athletic dude, he was a great player.” 

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash. “He didn’t go peacefully,” senior Jordan Olivares said. “It was just an accident. You don’t die unless you’re forgotten. I can still feel the impact of his death. People that I care about are affected which makes me care like my dad. He grew up watching (him), it’s much harder for him.”

In his 20 years with the Los Angeles Lakers, Bryant won five NBA championship trophies and two final MVPs.

“Kobe (was) already successful, he was respected and admired, inspired many to pursue their ambition,” Olivares said. “The worst part he was training his daughter. She wanted to play too, that whole generation and potential that was starting is gone.”
