How would other people describe you?
Hopefully caring, kind, passionate about my job and other people.
Was there a career you wanted to pursue OR pursued before teaching.
Kinda for a little bit in high school I wanted to be a nurse and then I realized I couldn’t look at blood without wanting to throw up but ever since I was little I wanted to be a basketball coach and that kinda comes with teaching.
Tell us about how you got into teaching.
I wanted to coach and at my school there were a whole lot of majors. Education was one of the main ones so I just picked it and then I ended up falling in love with teaching.
What do you do outside of school for fun? Why?
Play basketball, discoff, hiking, really anything outdoors.
When people get to know you, really get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn?
I guess that I’m actually funny.
Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
My first year coaching one of my students was a great kid, great athlete but she had a terrible home life, a lot of stuff going on. She at times was gonna quit, didn’t want to come to school thinking about dropping out of all the things and we had a really good relationship. I guess it’s not a moment I’m proud of but the relationship I built with her kept her in school, kept her in basketball and now she’s gonna play in college most likely, more so I’m proud of the kid than myself but I feel like the relationship I built with the kid is like I’m super proud of that.
Who is someone you are thankful for and why?
My husband, because he supports me in everything and cares about me and I know no matter what I do he’ll always be there for me.
What advice would you give to someone pursuing a career similar to yours?
Make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons, that you actually want to help students and children and not doing it because its easy or easy paycheck. Also don’t take it too seriously, don’t take kids or the job too seriously because it can be really hard at times but understand that they’re just kids and they’re still learning, growing and nothing they say should affect you.
What do you hope to be remembered for?
My kindness for other people and my heart for helping others.
What’s on your bucket list?
To go to every National park in the United States, hike it, go to Europe and travel around Europe.
