How would other people describe you?
Outgoing, I can be organized but I can also have a sparkling personality.
Was there a career you wanted to pursue OR pursued before teaching.
Yes, I was in human resources in the oil and gas industry, and the volatility of the workforce made me realize I wanted to change.
Tell us about how you got into teaching.
My grandmother was a librarian and my sister was a teacher, and when my sister told me to come to her class when I wanted to switch careers. Then I knew I wanted to do FCS (Family and consumer science).
What do you do outside of school for fun? Why?
I travel, I love to spend time with my family, including showing pigs with my daughter. All of these I personally enjoy.
When people get to know you, really get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn?
I was a two time fair queen, cancer survivor, I taught elementary before I came to high school.
Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
I think my ability to be able to always see the positive in everything. Even on difficult days I can have a positive outlook.
Who is someone you are thankful for and why?
My students because they have the ability to keep me young, and I appreciate that they are in the early stages of developing their leadership and I get to guide them.
What advice would you give to someone pursuing a career similar to yours?
Do not let the negativity sway you.
What do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope to be remembered for always encouraging students to do their best and to be understanding when they needed me to be.
What’s on your bucket list?
When I was diagnosed with cancer, I realized there wasn’t a time to save so I did them now. So I don’t have any more now, but not in a sad way. In a way to be hopeful.
