How would other people describe you?
Other people would describe me as outgoing, personable and funny.
Was there a career you wanted to pursue OR pursued before teaching.
I thought I wanted to be in corporate America but I didn’t want to work in a cubical so I went into teaching.
Tell us about how you got into teaching.
I have twins and my kids were in school and doing a lot of volunteer work with them. One of their teachers said why aren’t you a teacher and my dad always told me I should be one so I went back to school and got my degree.
What do you do outside of school for fun? Why?
Now that my kids are all grown, we just hang out, maybe go to a college football game, nothing too much, maybe read books and play with my dogs.
When people get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn about you?
That I’m the same person I am at work then I am outside of school.
Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
One of my students I taught in the 6th grade struggled. He was an EB student, he was bilingual and he hadn’t been in the state long. I taught English and I told him not to give up and he would be successful. So during his senior walk he had his national honors society stole on. He was the president and said that he owed everything to me and I was his voice of encouragement.
Who is someone you are thankful for and why?
I would have to say my parents, I dont have them anymore. They are deceased but they were my cheerleaders behind me my entire life. I was a dancer in high school and college on the drill team and they never missed an event. They were always there for me so I would like to do the same for my kids.
What advice would you give to someone pursuing a career similar to yours?
To go for it, stay with it, sometimes life is hard and there’s challenges but stick with it, you have a dream, you have a goal, go for it.
What do you hope to be remembered for?
My thing is about leaving a legacy making sure people realize that I cared and I loved them when I say I truly care about you then I do.
What’s on your bucket list? I would love to go to Fiji
