This season our track participants made it to Regional 5A Track Meet in Humble, Texas on April 27.

The participants that went to regionals all worked hard to get as far as they got.

“We have had a good turn out they worked hard,” coach Berry Walker said.

“Track itself is a mindset, you’re competing with yourself,” coach Scott Merry said.

It was senior Braylin Nunn’s last year running track and said he felt as if he ended it with success.

“I felt like I got faster,” Nunn said. “The lower classmen looked up to me and thought of me as a leader.”

Kya Eubanks came second in District and Area.

“Other schools don’t see us as a competition, but then we go out there and prove them wrong,” she said.

This summer, Eubanks plans on improving her track skills by “Going to speed and weight camp, eating healthy and training harder.”

Runner A.J. Mills said to better herself she said she plans to “go to speed and weight camp over the summer, listen to my coaches without being so hard headed and put in full effort all season.”

Junior Jacob Legg came in first place in discus all the way up to regionals then, made the school record in shot put.

“I bought college level discus and other useful stuff to work with over the summer so that I improve for next season,” Legg said

After talking to all four regional participants they all said that to improve as a family “Everyone should start dressing out at practices , taking the workouts serious and encourage one another.”

“The track coaches are always trying to find new way to improve their coaching,” Walker said. “Watching how professional track athletes trains and how other track coaches coach their athletes. We always try to better each and everyone.”

Walker said he wants to bring back pole vault for next season.

“The only way to stay on a good track is to get as many numbers as possible,” Walker said. “It’s always good to add to the team.”
